AJAX vs. Javascript

I have noticed an increasing trend in people today. All they want is something very easy.... and try somwthing new. In that horde, they are ignoring the usability aspects. Usability like - will user wait for "AJAX" function to finish loading!! Ajax does contain some fantastic functionalities; but I am still a follower of Javascript. May be because, I have created wonderful functionalities using the JS... or may be because I am from old school - I still give all thumb up to the Javascript, that does bring in a lot of server load to the client side.
